Social programme

Please indicate your participation on the registration form.

Friday March 22: Official reception offered at the Bordeaux city hall, 6.30 pm/7.30 pm. 3 minute walk from the Athénée Municipale. Free evening.

Saturday March 23: Banquet at Château Giscourshome ofa Margaux Grand Cru Classé Bordeaux wine, in the famous Medoc vineyard region. Transport by coach, departure at 8.00 pm. 65 euros/person.

Sunday March 24: Free reception.

Accompanying programme 

The tours are accompanied by professional guides (French/English) for parties of at least 25. Fees will be refunded for any tour cancelled due to a low number of registrations.

Visit of Bordeaux: Friday March 22 (3.00 pm ­ 5.00 pm)

Bordeaux's historical center offers the largest 18th century architectural ensemble in Western Europe. Departure from the Athénée Municipale for a walking visit of 18th century Bordeaux : Place de la Bourse, the Fountain of the Three Graces, the listed buildings sector, Place du Parlement, Place Saint Pierre, the pedestrian quarter, the hôtels particuliers (town mansions with courtyards), the Grand Théâtre, the Place des Quinconces.15 euros/person

Shopping in downtown Bordeaux: Saturday March 23 all day

Saturday is the best day to go sightseeing and shopping within walking distance of hotels around Place Gambetta, Place Pey-Berland, down rue Porte-Dijeaux and rue Sainte-Catherine to Place de la Victoire and around the Quartier Saint-Pierre.

Saint Emilion: Sunday March 24 (9.30 pm ­ 6.00 pm)

This tour is by coach, departure from and return to the Bordeaux 3 campus. Visit of the famous and attractive medieval village of Saint Emilion (classified as part of UNESCO Cultural Patrimony) 40 miles east of Bordeaux: the monolithic church (carved in the rock), the 12th century fortifications, the Tower of the King from where the “Jurade” proclaims the “Ban des Vendanges” every year, the Collegial Church, the cloister of the Cordeliers. Lunch in a restaurant.Visit of wine cellars and wine tasting in a Château. 57 euros/person

 

Medoc Wine Tour: Monday March 25 (2.00 pm ­ 5.30 pm)

More visits of wine cellars and wine tasting in the Medoc area north of Bordeaux along the west bank of the Gironde estuary…  30 euros/person

 

Accommodation

Please return your registration form as soon as possible to guarantee your reservation. The reservations made after the January 21, 2002 deadline will be honored according to hotel room availability. The hotel deposit guarantees your reservation and will be deducted from your final hotel bill. No reservation will be held without a deposit.

Registration

To be registered for the conference, please fill in the form correctly and mail or fax it (please do not e-mail it) to BEC with the corresponding payment. All participants, chairs, moderators included, are kindly requested to complete and return their registration forms. A confirmation/invoice will be sent to each registered participant with the name and address of the hotel. 

The conference fee covers: registration, conference kit; Friday evening reception, Saturday lunch, Sunday lunch, Sunday evening reception, coffee breaks; access to lectures, workshops, Internet room.

Cancellation: : cancellations must be notified to BEC by mail, fax or e-mail. Until February 12, all amounts paid out to BEC will be refunded minus a 20% cancellation fee. After February 12 no reimbursement will be possible.
