| The 2002 EAAS conference takes place in Bordeaux, one of the world capitals of wine-making. Situated in the Gironde département, itself a part of the Aquitaine region, the city is a major gateway to France's southwest and Atlantic Rim. Bordeaux is a privileged spot for tourism and sightseeing. Although March is not the best period to enjoy the region to the fullest, take a minute to visit the English-language Web site of the tourist information office and a very informative site on tourism in and near Bordeaux. |
|
|
| Registration and accommodation reservations are handled by Bordeaux-Evénement-Congrès (BEC). You may print out the registration and accommodation form (download by clicking here) and information sheet or find them included as the centerfold of the September 2001 EAAS Newsletter (n° 47). |

| Bordeaux is
about 600 km (375 miles) from Paris. The trip between the two cities takes
5-6 hours by car, 3 hours by train, 1 hour by plane (landing at Bordeaux-Mérignac
airport).
Plane:
There are direct flights between Bordeaux and various major international
cities but they are not necessarily advantageous: travelling via Paris
is sometimes more economical. Air France is the official carrier of
the conference; click
here for Air France schedules.
From Mérignac airport you can reach downtown by taking a taxi (less than 30 minutes) or the convenient shuttle bus (30 to 45 minutes) leaving the airport every half hour. Train: All trains arrive at Bordeaux-Saint-Jean station; click here for train schedules. A 2nd-class one-way ticket from Paris to Bordeaux is 56.10 euros. A return ticket is 112.20 euros—slight price variations are possible depending on where tickets are purchased. Take a taxi (10-15 minutes) or the 7/8 bus (the fare can be bought from the driver) to the Place Gambetta-city hall area, where most hotels are located. |

|
| Citizens from countries outside the European Union should consult their travel agencies or nearest French Embassy or Consulate. |
|
|
| Although good surprises are always possible you had better look forward to (at least) some rain and occasionally chilly weather in Bordeaux around late March. Snow and extreme heat are both highly unlikely... Click here for a weather update. |
|
|
| BEC will dispatch conference participants in hotels located in the city center within walking distance from the downtown conference venue, the Athénée municipale, and the pick-up spots of the shuttle buses to the Bordeaux 3 campus. |
|
|
| Many banks and ATMs can be found in the downtown area. Reminder for non-EU, Danish, Swedish, and UK participants: please note that by March 2002 the French currency will no longer be the French franc but the EURO. Click here to know the average exchange rate between your national currency and the euro. |

| The EAAS conference
will take place in two venues. On the first and fourth days (Friday &
Monday), lectures will be held at the Athénée
municipal, 7 place Saint Christoly (conference desk in the front lobby),
a city hall-owned auditorium located in the heart of the city's historical
center, 3 minutes away from the medieval cathedral. On the second and third
days (Saturday & Sunday), proceeedings will move 7 km (4 miles) from
downtown to the Université Michel de Montaigne-Bordeaux
3 campus (conference desk in the central "Administration" building),
the arts and social sciences part of the Bordeaux
Domaine
Universitaire.
Shuttle buses will transport the conference participants to the campus in the morning and back to the downtown area in the late afternoon. Those who will wish not to spend the whole day on campus will be free to take public transit buses; please note that their weekend frequency is limited. 10-ticket books can be bought from most tobacconists. On Saturday lunch will be offered by the town hall of Pessac, home of Bordeaux 3 and Bordeaux 4 (the faculty of Law, Political Science, Economics and Management). |
|
|
| Commercial and University Presses will present new and relevant titles at the Book Exhibition located in the registration area of the Bordeaux 3 campus site on Saturday and Sunday. EAAS members are welcome to display at most three of their recently published books in the "EAAS Members Publications" section of the Book Exhibition. |
